Frequently Asked Questions

When should I hire a doula?

I would be happy to hear from you whether you’re 6 weeks or 36 weeks! The sooner the better, when we meet early in pregnancy we’re allowed many months to get to know eachother and really dive into your wants and desires for your birth.

What is a doula?

A doula is a birth worker who provides emotional, physical, and informational support during your childbearing year. We would spend your pregnancy planning and preparing for your upcoming birth, I would support you through labor, and then help care for you in the post partum period.

Do doulas replace the partner?

No, I do not replace a partner! I know a lot about birth but your partner knows YOU! I would like to support your partner in ways to show up for you in this time.

What does a post partum doula do?

The post partum doula role can look different in every family. Some examples of work include preparing snacks, drinks, and possibly meals for the mother, tending to baby while the mother showers, eats or naps, assisting with breastfeeding, some newborn care education, light housekeeping, and more! It depends on you, your family, and where you’re needing some extra support.

How does payment work?

I require a non-refundable deposit of $500 at time of booking, this gets you on my schedule. You will then decide on a payment schedule that works for your family, with the requirement that my fee is paid in full by 36 weeks. For medicaid families, I just need some information from you and then I bill insurance myself, you do not need to worry about payment. For placenta services, I require a $100 deposit and the remaining fee paid in full by 36 weeks. I can accept cash, check, or venmo.

Do I need a doula if I hired a midwife?

Doula’s and midwives have different roles in a birth! A midwife is an expert in normal birth and knows how to identify and handle potential emergencies. This means that they may have more focus on taking vitals, charting, and resting during down time to stay on top of their game. A doula provides the emotional, physical, and informational support as well as helping you advocate for your birth plan. A doula works solely for you, the family.
